After competing in the first Grand Slam of the season, the Australian Open, Ana Konjuh will be off the court for between three and five months to undergo surgery on her right elbow.

“Ana has had a problem with a pain in her right hand for almost two years. Due to this problem she took a pause in the first half of last year’s season. After a series of examinations and consultations with both Croatian and European doctors, specialists in sports injuries, we decided to undergo surgery.

We have been trying in all different ways to solve this problem but unfortunately they haven’t yielded any results, so we have made the difficult decision to go to surgery. Ana will have the operation in Zagreb in one of our hospitals after returning from Australia.

From the first day when the problem occurred surgery was an option, but then we were not sure if she needed it or not. After the pain appeared again in the tournament in Auckland, in conversation and consultation with the selector of the Croatian Fed Cup team, Iva Majoli, we decided in the first days of 2014 to undergo the surgery after the Australian Open.

How long Ana’s recovery will last exactly, three, four or five months, we will know only after the operation.

Because of the surgery Ana will miss out several tournaments, as well as appearing in the FED Cup next month. She hopes that she will be able to come and support the team from the stands in an effort to make this year a step forward compared to last year and be placed in a stronger group " - read a statement , signed by her father, trainers and manager.
